Search Engine Friendly URL For Wordpress and Joomla
For last one year i’ve interest to use Joomla and Wordpress Content Management System (CMS) for build a site but i won’t forgot Drupal off course 
the first CMS i’ve used. Both of them (Joomla and Wordpress) has a lot of extensions with many purpose. In this post i want to share about make Wordpress and Joomla more “Search Engine Friendly”.
Wordpress with .htm / .html url end
First Wordpress blog i saw with this permalink rewrite is on cosaaranda.com on last year when i googling for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) article. I’ve found his nice article Pisang Goreng Anget (which the first time i know what SEO is and also first SEO article i’ve read). I’m curious with his (Cosaaranda) wordpress permalink, why can be ended by .htm ??
So i’ve made some experiences and it’s look work, here are:
- First login into Wordpress admin (usually http://site/wp-admin)
- Go to Option and choose Permalink
- In Custom Option fill: /%postname%.html (look at picture above)
- Then click “Update Permalink Structure” button, and your post url should be end by .html
- After that i recommend to install All in SEO Pack plugins that a nice one with various options.
Joomla SEF with SH404SEF
Although Joomla has nice SEF in backend: (One of my site use SEF Joomla standard and has nice indexing and rank)
Site -> Global Configuration -> SEO -> Choose Yes to: Search Engine Friendly URLs
But there are one component i recommend to used: SH404SEF Component. This compenent has many features, and one of that is url rewrite. Can format basic Joomla url into shorter and nice for example:
index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=32&id=11
into:
/yournewsurl.html
it’s easy to use, and can work with or without .htaccess. Also available and compatible in many external Joomla component. Many useful option is redirect 301 page, custom 404 error, and excluding incompatible component.
That’s all just my two cents from me based my few experienced. Hope this can be usefully for you.
